Adamsville First United Methodist Church

Adamsville First United Methodist Church

Adamsville First United Methodist Church was established during the latter half of the nineteenth century, worshiping in a building that was shared with the Baptists and Cumberland Presbyterians.  Those ecumenical roots that date back prior to 1851 still characterize today’s church.  As a member of the Ministerial Alliance for our community, we host interdenominational services throughout Holy Week and participate in the community worship services that are held in observance of Thanksgiving, as well as Easter Sunrise Service.

Our roots are deep in our community, our nation, and our world.  In cooperation with other United Methodist churches in our region, we provide a Toy Store for needy children who attend our city schools so their Christmas may be blessed.  We donated to our Junior High/Senior High band when they were invited to participate in this year’s Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C. We annually provide a contribution towards our high school’s Project Graduation on that special night.  This fall we will be sponsoring a “Fifth Quarter” gathering for the families and students who attend the home football game that evening.  We provide a Wednesday night meal, games, and Bible study for children from preschool through high school.

Our connection with the United Methodist Church is also vital.  We provided monies towards the Bishop’s new residence in Africa.  We contributed to the Lenten World Hunger offering, as well as Hannah’s Hope.

Our connection to the world is also important to us.  We recently collected personal hygiene products, games, snacks, and videos for those young men and women serving our country on special missions in the 101st Airborne Division.  Our awareness of those needing the support of others right here at home has not escaped us, either.  This summer we collected those small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and hand lotion that our members have encountered in their hotels on their family trips.  Later this fall, those unopened items will be boxed by category by our children so they can be taken to the Manna House in Memphis for distribution to those who are homeless.

In addition to reaching out to others as the corporate Body of Christ, we wish to live the life of purpose God has for each one of us.  We covet your prayers to continue as a church to serve our community, as well as be representatives of God’s love to those we encounter on a daily basis as we go on our separate journeys.  May the Lord alone receive praise for the deeds done in His name.
