In the past five years, the worship attendance at Lexington First has increased 24%. We recently voted to purchase the old Ford Building next door for expansion. We are now going through a capital campaign to pay off this debt. We have plans to put up a building at some point in the future. There has been some talk about an interactive Children’s Center. It would be a new way of of presenting Christ to the next generation, involving computers and arts and crafts. This in turn could be used as a ministry during the week for children in the community....
Learn MoreAdamsville First United Methodist Church was established during the latter half of the nineteenth century, worshiping in a building that was shared with the Baptists and Cumberland Presbyterians. Those ecumenical roots that date back prior to 1851 still characterize today’s church. As a member of the Ministerial Alliance for our community, we host interdenominational services throughout Holy Week and participate in the community worship services that are held in observance of Thanksgiving, as well as Easter Sunrise Service. Our roots are deep in our community, our nation, and our world. In cooperation with other United Methodist churches in our region, we provide a Toy Store for needy children who attend our city schools so their Christmas may be blessed. We donated to our Junior High/Senior High band when they were invited to participate in this year’s Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C. We annually provide a contribution towards our high school’s Project Graduation on that special night. This fall we will be sponsoring a “Fifth Quarter” gathering for the families and students who attend the home football game that evening. We provide a Wednesday night meal, games, and Bible study for children from preschool through high school. Our connection with the United Methodist Church is also vital. We provided...

Learn MorePACTO Over Labor Day weekend the Memphis and Tennessee Conference appointive cabinets traveled together to Piedra Angular Campamento (Cornerstone Camp) just outside of Reynosa, Tamaulipas State, Mexico. The purpose of our trip was to continue in conversation about the PACTO that was signed at annual conference three years ago between the resident bishops from the Nashville Area and the bishop from Northeast Mexico Conference (CAO). The conference borders the Rio Grande River in Texas and is made up of 13 districts. The resident bishop is Raul Garciade Ochoa. Our time together was spent in worship, much prayer, good meals and a time for each district superintendent from all three conferences to share information about our districts that would enable us to determine what districts could be matched across the border to begin a relationship of ministry sharing. The final day we were all asked to find someone that we felt would be a good partner for ministry. District #1 Jabes is partnering with the Jackson District. The District Superintendent is Rev. David Villanueva Garza. David and I spent some time on that final day developing two possible ways that we might connect and work together to be in mission both in the Jabes and Jackson Districts. After hearing his...
